thanks so much for the shoutout! Truly appreciate it. Love this description of why you love motherhood. (I've often struggled iwth loving motherhood- not the kids but the whole package so this was a nice perspective.)
"The reasons I love being a mom have little to do with that fantasy. Because it’s not the fantasy – it’s about the kid, right? It’s the kid. Getting to be part of this human’s life and getting to witness and to know at the level of my bones this person."
As someone watching several friends have their first children, I loved this ode to community. I'm still on the fence about having children of my own, but I want to be the person my friends can turn to when they need a babysitter or someone to vent to or a fun night out.
Thanks for the shoutout Nikki! I relate to much of this including my kids looking very different from my fantasy which is great (except that they won’t play board/card games with me). You seem to value the people in your life so much (can we be friends?)! I also LOVED Monsters (see previous parenthetical).
My son would play cards and board games with you all day long! And um, yes please let's be friends! Wasn't Monsters so good? I feel like I should re-read it once a year. Thanks so much for reading, Jo-Ann!
I remember my childhood fantasy of getting married, having six children and raising them on a farm! Of course that did not happen. I had two children raised them in a suburb and got divorced when they were 13 and 8. I remember, after having my first child while living abroad with no family member support, how difficult it felt to be a mom. I felt fooled that no-one prepared me for how hard it would be.

Motherhood in this country can be hard to love! Thanks so much for reading!
